Challenges and export opportunities of home-based businesses (handicrafts of Hamadan province)

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify and prioritize export challenges and opportunities as effective factors in the development of handicraft home-based businesses. The research was an applied research with a qualitative approach. The technique used for data collection, data analysis was content analysis method. The statistical population is handicrafts of Hamadan province in the fields of pottery, ceramics and hand-woven carpets in 2019. After reviewing the literature, sixteen interviews were conducted by interviewing guide questions, using the in-depth interview technique with purposeful sampling of key informants using the snowball method. The Analyzes were performed with the SWOT approach and were classified and refined through communication between categories, research data. 14 key factors (pivotal components) 154 concepts were identified. After a multifaceted evaluation with the interviewed experts, the results showed: a) Financial indicators: investment and income capacities, production and export costs b) Improving the business environment: Amending the laws and Regulations, increase training capacities, improve production operations and workshop technology c) Access to foreign markets: obtain general market information, strengthen export knowledge and strengthen export development organizations d) Develop export capabilities: Proper planning, increase Marketing capabilities, increasing product usability and increasing competitive advantage have an impact on improving the performance and development of home-based businesses. The final research model was formed with four main categories.
