The Study of the Barriers and Problems Related to Implementing MIS: Case Study in Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex

Abstract

    The aim of this study is to investigate and identify the barriers and problems related to establishing management information systems (MIS) from administrators’ point of view. on this basis, attempt has been made to propose suitable solutions to these barriers by identifying them in different stages of establishing these systems in Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex in Rafsanjan. These barriers are discussed in terms of four variables: administrators’ being unfamiliar with management information systems lack of experts low level of employees information and education and their resistance against changes. The relationship between these factors and the establishment of management information systems from administrators’ point of view were then examined. For this purpose, close-ended questionnaires with 5 choices were used. 169 administrators of Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex were selected to serve as the sample using an stratified random sampling method. To analyze the obtained data, descriptive statistics (frequency tables, histograms bar charts) and inferential statistics (variance diagram, Spearman and τb-Kendall correlation tests) were used and the following results were obtained:   1. There is no significant relationship between the administrators’ degree of MIS familiarity and the implementation of management information systems.   2. There is no significant relationship between the lack of experts for operational supporting of MIS and its implementation.   3. There is no significant relationship between the low level of employees’ education and information and the implementation of MIS.   4. There is a significant relationship between the employees’ resistance against change and the implementation of MIS.   Moreover, using the above tests, we found that there is no significant relationship between sex, career length, job seniority, age, education level, education major and the degree of administrators’ knowledge on MIS and its implementation in Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex
