Identifying and ranking the effective dimensions of digital transformation on the internationalization of startup companies

Abstract

Aim and introduction: A startup is a new company founded by an entrepreneur to implement a business plan, generally based on new technologies. These types of companies have occupied a very important place in today's knowledge-based economy, and governments pay special attention to them (Eldar and Greenan, 2024). The present study aimed to investigate the impact of digital transformation on the internationalization of startup companies using a meta-synthesis approach.
Methodology: This study is an applied-developmental research from the perspective of the purpose, which was conducted to investigate the impact of digital transformation on the internationalization of startup companies. Based on the data collection method, it is considered a survey-cross-sectional study. To achieve the research objective, a mixed exploratory research design was used.
In the qualitative section, after searching databases, in the period from 1399 to 1403 AH and from 2015 to 2024 AD, 39 studies on the impact of digital transformation on the internationalization of startup companies were evaluated, and finally 20 studies were selected using a purposeful method and entered the analysis stage.
In the quantitative part, the Swara method was used to rank the identified indicators. The statistical population in this part of the research includes theoretical and empirical experts. Theoretical experts include university professors in the field of marketing and theoretical experts include managers of startup companies, totaling 15 people.
Finding: The results of the impact of digital transformation on the internationalization of startup companies are presented. Thetre are Government agents:
Export rules and requirements for startup companies.
Reducing or eliminating export tariffs for startup companies.
Easing conditions for startup companies to enter global markets.
Granting tax exemptions and export incentives
Government support for startups to enter global markets.
Hardware platforms:
Using hardware equipment in digital transformation
Integration and alignment of startup companies' hardware.
Providing technical facilities for startup companies.
Possibility of upgrading startup companies' hardware.
Software platforms:
Using modern software in startup companies.
Continuous updating of digital software
Hiring human resources specialized in using software.
Deploying global software in startup companies.
Compatibility of software with startup companies' hardware
Management factors:
Supporting startup company managers in digital transformation
Investing in digital transformation to enter global markets
Establishing an innovative digital culture in companies Startup
Confronting the extensive digital transformations of global markets.
Accepting and adapting to digital changes and developments
Upgrading human resource skills based on digital competence
Digital customer relationship management:
Attention to international customer requests digitally
Continuous monitoring of international customer needs digitally
Digitally responding to international customer requests
Digitally handling international customer complaints
Receiving digital feedback from international customers.

Discussion and Conclusion: This study significantly advances the topic of digital transformation in startups, both theoretically and practically. It also uses meta-analysis to comprehensively assess the research on digital transformation in startups. This approach identifies key themes, patterns, and gaps in the literature that can shed light on the current state of the field and suggest areas for future research. This study fills the gaps in the literature by providing a novel analysis of digital transformation in startups. The research also emphasizes the importance of digital transformation for startups, as digital technologies are becoming an increasingly critical component of contemporary enterprises. These insights are useful for startups considering digital transformation initiatives, as they provide recommendations on how to approach and manage the process properly. As a result, this research makes a significant theoretical and practical contribution to the understanding of digital transformation in startups. This study fills a knowledge gap and guides future research by providing an overview of the literature and highlighting important issues and trends.
